Severny Island is an island located in the Russian Arctic Ocean. The island is about 37,000 square kilometers in area, making it the third-largest island in the Russian Arctic. The island is uninhabited and is mostly covered by glaciers and ice sheets, with very little vegetation.
Severny Island was first explored by Russian explorers in the 17th century and was used as a base for Soviet military operations during the Cold War. The island is currently part of the Russian Arctic National Park and is a popular destination for tourists and scientists.
Due to its location in the Arctic, the island experiences extreme weather conditions, with temperatures often below freezing and harsh winds. The island is also home to a variety of Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, walruses, and Arctic foxes.
